Journal time -
So, yesterday, I volunteered at the Gala evening for the Leo Awards. The Leo Awards, for those who don't know, are the BC Film and Television awards. Basically, picture the Golden Globes, but JUST awards given to productions from California and awarded to only Americans.... and then switch California with British Columbia and Americans for Canadians, and there you go! Leo Awards!
I was stationed by the registration table as a "runner" (ie: where people check-in with their tickets before going to the red carpet (indoor red-carpet)), so I got to see everyone arriving in their fancy clothes. It was fun! I'm really not good with names or faces, and I hardly watch anything ever - but I DID end up recognizing way more people than I thought I would. Mostly, those from Dirk Gently or SPN which are the two locally filmed shows that I watch.
It was fun to see the Rowdy3 from Dirk Gently all dressed in suits. Osric was there too as a presenter. He wore a suit this year, not a dress (sadly) - my friend at Registration asked him "no dress this year?" and he replied that this year was a last-minute thing and he hadn't had the time necessary for a dress.
Anyway, Ty Olsson was there too and I ended up talking to him and his friends for a second - but it was literally just to give them information about the party already underway... and I was accidentally a little sarcastic. Oops. Anyway, later Ty won an award, so that was cool.
I also saw the twins from Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events - but they're pretty easy to recognize, and also they were wearing identical outfits/hairstyles, so that just made it all the more obvious.
The guest stars I recognized from SPN (besides Osric and Ty) were numerous, but I couldn't give you names or episodes - just that they looked familiar enough, and I could picture them talking to Jensen, that I knew they'd been on SPN - though at this point, I think every actor in BC has been on SPN at least once, so yeah, technically, I probably should have recognized every single person there.
Oh, Dan Payne won an award too. He's been on SPN a few times, I think.
Anyway, I didn't stick around until the final award, or the "mingling" afterwards - because I really don't like mingling or speaking with people that I don't know, in an industry I'm not a part of. Like - my friend who volunteers every year is the type of person who knows everything about everyone, and follows the industry stuff and whatnot, even though she works at Starbucks. But I... don't. I watch two shows, and then I promptly forget who was in them and what they looked like. :P
One of the highly nominated films of the evening was a film called Hello Destroyer that looked really good, but probably extraordinarily depressing. So, it was cool to learn about a movie that I hadn't heard of that I probably SHOULD have heard of, because yeah - really looked interesting... though, not sure I'll ever watch it, because of the inherent sadness.
Anyway, it was cool. Not sure I'll do it again. But it was a neat experience to have.
