File Sharing Sites...

Hello everybody!

So, I'm nearly done my rewatch of Sherlock 2.1, A Scandal in Belgravia.

It's long. I don't actually have a word count on it yet, because I'm old-school and I like to type up my rewatches in Notepad. But, for a comparison, when I rewatched S1, it took me about 1 hour to get through 8-10minutes of show. This time, it's been taking me 2 hours to get through 8-10min of show.

So, with that in mind, and since I can't post meta to AO3, I was thinking that I should make it available to download in PDF, for those of you who want to read it, but would prefer if you could download it to an eReader and save it for reading in planes, trains, and buses. Eventually, I'll go back and make PDFs of my already published metas, for those who have asked me to.

My question to you is: What site should I use to host these files?!

Please let me know in comments! I'd appreciate any and all recommendations/reviews.

P.S. I feel like I should add that I'm not so arrogant that I just assume people want to download pdfs of my ramblings... I'm really the one that's MOST surprised that people have asked for them. I just feel like I should say that, because writing posts like this always makes me feel like any second the phone is going to ring and it'll just be someone saying "What makes you think your opinions are so goddamn special?" and I'll start saying, "I don't! It's just fun to type them up and then people liked them and wanted copies..." and the voice will scoff and say "A likely story!" and then I'll cry. So, yeah, obviously, if you don't care about my rewatches, that's fine!! I don't expect you to!

You could host on google for free. Sites.google.com.

But that's for websites... I mean, can you upload pdfs there to be downloaded by anyone? I don't need my own website. (Unless I'm missing something?)

If I CAN upload files there...that'd be pretty cool.

(Sorry, reading about it now)... I mean, I definitely like the "free" part and the fact that it wouldn't necessarily be ad heavy or whatever... like a lot of file sharing sites are.

I've used box.com for story .pdf files before, and it will even send you an email when someone downloads it, if you want. Dropbox is another option, too. :)

Hmm, I'll look into dropbox. I already have that on my computer, but I haven't really explored it's functionality very much.

Sure you just host PDFs. Just create yourself a homepage with your PDFs. Pretty easy on their site.....no coding required.

That might be kind of fun... then I'd also have a website to play with... don't know what I'd do with it. Day-to-day updates on my projects?

Back-up site for the timeline and If Clothes Could Talk? Plus collecting Demented!verse all in one place? Might not have a comment function--my site on Bravenet doesn't--but it would be there if LJ craters.

Good point! I tried to use DW as a backup, but I have to do all my links for If Clothes Could Talk over again, not to mention that I can't import EDITS to entries, so if I want to update ICCT there I have to go in and do it manually.

Of course, I'd have the same problem on my own site... but maybe I could come up with a solution. I could make If Clothes Could Talk available for download, but those files are HUGE and extremely frustrating to navigate if you are anyone but me. :P

You could use google docs. Upload a PDF, do Share and choose "anyone with the link," and copy the link, then post that. Or Dropbox would work, too and function similarly.

Interesting! I'll look into those options. I already have dropbox, but I only used it last summer to share files with a friend.

Oh, I'll be doing the LJ posts too. No worries. I just also want to make the pdfs available for those who want them.

I'll also be editing it myself once I'm done, so it'll be cut down a little bit anyway.
