My favorite story this year (of my own):
Probably Sam Is... and isn't that just the kicker - to have something so small overshadow the huge epic that is Vile Violent Vacations.
My best story this year:
Again, probably Sam Is... While my demented!verse overshadows it in terms of intrigue, plot, and length, Sam Is... has the benefit of having every word carefully chosen to the point where I don't think I have a single line in there that doesn't have a district purpose.
Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Vile Violent Vacations - and by extension, the whole of the demented!verse. I know it is greatly appreciated by the niche fans of Harry Potter/Supernatural crossovers, but man, I put so much work into that thing, I kind of wish people who weren't into crossovers would read it too.
Most fun story:
Vile Violent Vacations - the demented!verse is an absolute joy for me to write. I can be both outrageously hilarious, and oddly poignant with is...and still stay true to the voice of both fandoms.
Most suspenseful story:
I'm not sure. It's hard to judge your own stories, because you always know what's going to happen at the end of them. I guess I would have to say Sam Is... just because I think everyone was waiting for Sam's first words...
Story with single sexiest moment:
I don't write sex...so, umm...I guess Shirtless Sam in Vile Violent Vacations? Though, in Sam Is... I have Sam and Dean showering together (though it is decidedly very unsexy).
Story with single sweetest moment:
Oh man, ANY of my kid scenes in Vile Violent Vacations. I don't even like kids, but for some reason I felt the need to make Harry's children the epitome of adorable. Also, Nate...oh man, what a sweet kid Nate is. Is it wrong that I want to write fanfiction of my fanfiction?
Most unintentionally *telling* story:
I didn't actually reveal that much personal information in any of my fics...if that what this question means. Well, there was that anonymous one I did, which I'll get to in a minute...but, of my official fics, no, none were *telling.*
"Holy crap, that's *wrong*, even for you" story:
I wrote an anonymous porn story for a kink community out there. I won't tell you which, or what the content of the story was...but I will say that the story was wrong on so very many different levels...the "even for you" doesn't even factor into it, it was so appallingly wrong. Even more appalling is the fact that I'm debating writing another one that is even MORE wrong (if that is possible).
Most disappointing story:
I don't know, I'm not a very good judge of my own fic. For instance, I thought I could have done a much better job on Bobby and Hermione - an Epistolary Fic...but people seem to like it. Also, technically I wrote that in 2009, I just didn't publish it until 2010, so I don't think it counts.
Hardest story to write:
At over 120,000 words, I'd say it was Vile Violent Vacations. Not so much due to difficulty in writing, but rather difficulty in finding the amount of time needed to publish a 4,000 word chapter every week for 30 weeks and still stay a few chapters ahead of what people were reading. I started writing it possibly as early as February and started publishing it in May, and I flew to Germany, and to Ontario, I became nearly destitute when work dropped off and was too stressed to write, and then when work suddenly picked back up again, I didn't have time to write....and the whole time I had meant to have it all published by October - I even told people I'd start posting chapters twice weekly, and that never happened. It was a long hard slog to the end, but as I said above, an absolute joy to write when all was said and done.
Easiest story to write:
Sam Is... I wrote it in one day - ditching work completely. It just flowed. I then posted it and edited it very slowly and carefully AFTER posting over the span of two weeks. So, people who read it first actually read a very slightly different version than those who might read it now. Though, I only changed a word choice here and there, so it probably wouldn't be noticeable.
This year's theme and the story that demonstrates it most:
This year's theme is "hells_half_acre gets a little better at writing" and the story that demonstrates it most is if you compare Damned Demented Demons to Vile Violent Vacations....and then read Sam Is... which really is my masterpiece of the year, huge epic crossover aside.
I'm actually in the very slow process of editing Damned Demented Demons a little - to, at the very least, fix some typos and missing commas.
