Question: WTF? in proper english...

What would you call the expression people make just before they say "WTF?!?" It's not just confusion...bewildered confusion?

Anyway, just curious...how would YOU describe it?

For me it's sometimes bewildered confusion, but more likely shocked confusion - mentally I tend to add 'is that??' or 'was that??' on the end of WTF. ^^

True...I guess it all depends what people are "WTF"ing about!

'Astonished bewilderment' seems to be popular with me when I 'WTF' something, followed closely by 'confused astonishment'.

I tried that one but it didn't really work...still, valid answer! Thanks!

I'd keep it simpler. If you want a noun: incredulity, skepticism, disbelief, wonder, stupefaction. If it has to be an adjective: incredulous, disbelieving, stupefied, astonished.

Hmmm...disbelieving and astonishment are good additions...I'll have to mull this over. Thanks!
