Question: 30 Day Writing Meme?

Hello Everybody,

You know those 30 day memes? Like... "what's your favourite character?", "what was your first fandom?", etc.... Does anyone know if there's a 30 meme out there for WRITING? Wherein you have to write a drabble a day to a specific prompt/subject/fandom/whatever on each of the 30 days?

I think I've seen some 30 fanart memes on tumblr... but I don't think I've ever seen a 30 writing meme, but I thought it might be fun to do one.

Not that I don't have enough to do, or anything. I'm already working on a story or two, plus there's the novel that I'm supposed to be revising, the rewatch of Hounds of Baskerville that I haven't even started, not to mention the countless things you guys probably WISH I were doing that I'm not even thinking about. Also I have to work for a living, eat, sleep at night, and it's nice to occasionally spend an evening with my friends.

But yeah... I guess I was just curious if there was a good 30 day writing meme out there.

ETA: Okay! It's not a 30 day writing meme - but elliemurasaki recommended daily_prompt over on DW, and I love it! It has a nice mix of different prompts - single words, photos, quotes, settings... So I think I'm going to do that one. Now I just have to decide when and for how long!

I was just about to say, no reason we couldn't make one. :)

Hmmm... well, maybe if there isn't one. I'll see if one of you guys (or someone else on my flist) will make me one. I can't make one myself, because that wouldn't be very challenging or nearly as fun. :P

Hmm, that's an idea...

Right now I'm scrolling through tumblr to see if I can find something that suits, but I haven't yet.

Yes, please let me know! Sometimes you can more easily see the flaws in a meme when you try to do it.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of three-sentence or one-sentence fics, so I'd want to change those days. The other thing I have a problem with is all the "favourite character" prompts, because a)I don't tend to pick favourites and b)which fandom would I even be choosing from? So those prompts need to either be more specific.

Cool. Yeah, I don't know when/if and for how long I'm going to start my daily_prompt adventure. I kind of feel like I should finish at least one of the WIPs I have on the go before I do anything else.

There is, I've seen it before, it was years ago though. Tumblr is where they all originated, so it'll be there...somewhere. You might actually be able to find it if you look for the 30 days of writing tag.

Scrolling through tumblr as we speak! Thanks for the suggestion. I'm trying to find one that's not too vague but also not too specific... (I might be looking for something that doesn't exist.)

I don't know if this is even close to what you're wanting but there's dailyfics - "one fanfic a day for seven days" (though in it's info it also says you can do it for 15 and 30 days too). I haven't looked into it but I've seen it on a few of the Avengers comms I'm in.

Awesome! Thanks! I'll check out that community. I might not actually want to do it for 30 whole days. That might be asking too much of myself.

No worries. Glad to be of help. :)

There is, or there used to be, an LJ comm with thirty-prompt tables. Presumably you could write one prompt a day. Or follow dailyprompt or daily_prompt on Dreamwidth for a month and write every one of them, they'll love you.

Oh thanks! I'll check those out. :)

ETA: Ooo... I'm really liking daily_prompt. I'm thinking I might go with that one. It might also get me to use DW more, because I haven't been.

Thanks for the suggestion! Now I just have to decide when I should do it and for how long.
