Ugh, me...

First...

How much horsepower do you think the Impala has? And I am talking HORSEpower.

Second...

So, I've been writing this Merlin/SPN crossover...and I got to about 12,000 words, and then tonight I went to write and I'm like "hmm, what scene am I writing next? Maybe I should outline the rest of this thing so that I'm more organized about this." So, I outlined. My OUTLINE is more than 1,000 words!   This crossover doesn't even have a point! It's actually pretty dumb - it's more like an episode of Merlin than an episode of SPN. WHY IS IT SO LONG?

Oh man... anyway, yeah... now I'm all annoyed at myself, because I'm going to spend forever writing this thing, and it's probably going to disappoint everyone, because it's mostly about Merlin. (Mainly because unlike the demented'verse, Sam and Dean's angst doesn't matter in the slightest... I don't have them learning anything about themselves or each other by hanging out with Arthur and Merlin.) I mean, that might change. I could always sit on it to see what happens in the rest of S8, because maybe there's some Sam and Dean storyline that I could thread through...but at this point it's not looking likely. So, I kind of just have Sam and Dean from unknown-season where they're getting along and don't have an axe hanging over their head.

Third...

Anyway...um, yeah... in other news, I've been writing more demented'verse in my head... a story that I THOUGHT I could set in S8 of Supernatural, but sadly, I did the timeline math wrong and I'm going to have to wait until S9 :( ... which really sucks, because I want to write it NOW, but I need to know what SPN's plot is going to be so that I can work it in properly. And I don't have any ideas whatsoever for a story that could happen sooner. So...um, sorry demented'verse fans. I am as disappointed as you are. :(

Man, I am a bundle of bad news today.
[blatherings about timelines and the HP epilogue]Also, did anyone else notice that J.K. Rowlings timeline doesn't make sense? If Victoire was conceived/born shortly after the war was won, that would make her about a year younger than Teddy. So, that would put her a grade below Teddy. Now, the epilogue happens 19 years later, which would make her 18 and graduated Hogwarts...so why is Teddy kissing her on the train as though he's seeing her off? Or is she there to see her sister off and he's just kissing her for the hell of it? Anyway...yeah, unless I totally did the math wrong there too.  ETA: Okay, that was me messing up, apparently Victoire was named Victoire because she was born on May 2nd, but not necessarily the year after the war, which means that her having already graduated by the time the epilogue rolls around in the demented'verse is actually just me messing up the timeline AGAIN. Sigh. I try to hard to be canon compliant, and yet I still fail. I should point out (once again) that the entire demented'verse is a year off from conventional Harry Potter timeline dates, because I totally thought the battle of Hogwarts took place in 1998. :P

The horsepower question can be answered with a series of suppositions.

Dean would almost certainly have dropped a new engine into the Impala more than once, considering she must have hundreds of thousands of miles on her and has been totalled at least once. The biggest most powerful engine for the Impala is the 427. So even though she doesn't have the grill insignia SS427 or the modified hood of an original 427 performance package, Dean would have tricked Baby out with the best Chevy had to offer. The biggest awesomest version of the 427 would give Baby a factory gross HP rating of 435.

PS The Firebird they drove in s7 is not EXACTLY my Firebird, which is a 1981 -- but close enough!!! :D

Ooo, a car person! thanks so much! I know basically nothing about cars besides what a loose fan-belt sounds like - so this helps tremendously.

I totally get the want to comply the timelines but with the way SPN has danced all over the place, I don't think anyone will be too upset with you. Plus who cares when your writing is as good as it is. You take good care of us, so some niggly points in the timeline are no big. I'm also good to wait until you feel the time is right for the story to progress. I like my authors comfortable with what they are doing. I don't want them to churn things out just for my sake. Thanks for all your amazing work in the fandoms and I'll be around when the next installment is right.

Aw, thanks! You're a sweetheart.

I think for my own "professional pride" I'm going to have to wait until the time is actually right though. Who knows, it might be for the best! As it is, I wouldn't really know how to weave a S8 plot into a demented'verse story because there's currently too many balls in the air and I have to see where they land. So, even if I didn't want to wait, I'd probably still HAVE to wait... if that makes any sense.

And who knows, I might think of another little timestamp to fill the gap! But yeah, I don't want to churn things out unless I'm satisfied with the idea of them. :)

I have no idea what horsepower is, but I'm guessing the Impala probably has at least an 8-cylinder engine.

(I had a 67 Pontiac Catalina, and it had a 6-cylinder engine, which was average at the time. ANd it had SO much more pick up than my current little 4-cylinder civic.)

Oh...and I don't think that it matters about getting TOO crazy about the timeline. A good story takes you out of time and space and is able to be worked into a timetable in the reader's head. (plus, I think I read too many Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew books when I was a kid. If Frank and Joe and Nancy can stay 17 and 18 for almost 200 adventures and almost as many school vacations in the same year, then anything is possible...)

Haha, thanks for being lenient on the timeline issues - but sadly, I am not. The story I have in mind involves Teddy being 18 years old, and unfortunately, I just can't bring myself to skip a year and make him age early... so, I'm just going to have to wait. :P

But it's good to know that I'm probably the only one that cares about the timeline mistakes that I've already made!! ;)

Actually thanks to you talking about Merlin I got interested in it...I've looked at some pics and videos and read some fanfic--now I bought season 1 for myself for xmas! So it should get here this week, then I will be even more excited for your SPN/Merlin crossover once I've seen seen the show!

I can't wait to read what you come up with next--well I can...but I'll be anticipating it!

So, could you rec me any Merlin stories that are very good?

And don't worry about the little mistakes in timeline-ing. Your writing makes up for it.

Cool! I hope you like it. The thing to remember with Merlin is that it's kind of a silly show with not very good continuity or emotional follow-through. Which, makes it sound like I'm not recommending it, but I DO! The actors are fantastic, despite the sometimes shoddy writing - overall, it's a FUN show.

Much like the Harry Potter series, it gets darker and more angsty as it progresses.

Mostly though, I watch it for the gay. Haha, it's got one of the best dynamics between it's two male leads than any other show that I watch, I think.

I'm not sure what stories I can rec you. I read a lot of modern AUs, which just translates to "stories that are about two random people that just so happen to be named Merlin and Arthur." I've also read a fair bit of good fic in the canon-universe too. The problem is that I don't ever bookmark things very much. Also, I read slash in Merlin for the most part, so I'm little help if you prefer gen.

I mostly scope merlin_finders and the pinboard for the kinkmeme: https://pinboard.in/u:kinkme_merlin/ (which also tracks the unfilled prompts, so you have to sort by "fill" or "fulfilled" before you sort by more specific tags). Alternatively, you can check out my bookmarks on AO3, I usually give things short critiques/reviews when I bookmark them: http://archiveofourown.org/users/hells_half_acre/bookmarks (but like I said, the Merlin fics there are mostly modern-AUs, so if you want stories in the canon-verse, you're out of luck.)

I've always liked Arthurian legend, so when I heard you mention the show often I knew I'd get drawn in eventually. I'm sure I'll like it despite those flaws if the actors are good and have a good dynamic like you say!

And I do like slash as well as gen.

Thanks for the tips!

No prob.

If you like Arthurian legend (and know it well), then you should keep in mind that Merlin is the High School/College AU version of Arthurian legend. ;)
